What Is the SHARP Program?
SHARP is a Government of Alberta program that provides low-interest home equity loans of up to $40,000 to help seniors pay for necessary home repairs — including roof repair and replacement. Instead of paying everything up front, eligible seniors repay the loan on flexible terms, with simple interest only (never compound). For lower-income seniors who don’t qualify for the loan, SHARP may even offer a grant instead.

Do You Qualify?
You may be eligible for a SHARP loan if:
- You (or your spouse/partner) are 65 or older — only one of you needs to be 65
- You own your home and it’s your primary residence in Alberta
- Your total annual household income is $75,000 or less
- You have at least 25% equity in your home
Don’t qualify for the loan? Lower-income seniors may be eligible for a SHARP grant instead — we’re happy to point you to the right information when we visit.
How It Works — 3 Simple Steps
- Get your free roof inspection & written estimate Asonic Roofing inspects your roof at no charge and provides the detailed written cost estimate that SHARP requires with your application.
- Apply to SHARP Submit your application to the Government of Alberta online, by mail, or by fax — along with our estimate. Approval typically comes back in writing, and funds are deposited directly to your bank account.
- We complete your roof Once you’re approved, our experienced Calgary crew gets to work. Every install is backed by our warranty and 16+ years of local experience.
Good to know: If you sign a contract before applying, submit your SHARP application within 45 days of signing — this protects your cancellation rights if the program determines you’re not eligible for a loan. Already had roof work done? SHARP also accepts retroactive applications with receipts for work completed and paid within the last 12 months.
